Band News The band's tombola stall in Morrisons, Redcar on Friday 9 November was a huge hit, raising £362.40 for band funds. The band would like to thank all its members and supporters who volunteered their time to man the stall throughout the day. Furthermore, a BIG thanks and round of applause must go to Carole Prest (assisted by husband, Alun) for all her hard work in organising the event - from initial enquiry with Morrisons through folding hundreds of tickets to counting the cash at the end. Well done, Carole! The band is holding a Tombola in Morrisons, Redcar on Friday 9th November to raise funds. Lots of good prizes to be won. More prizes, volunteers to man the stall throughout the day and (most importantly) supporters to purchase tickets required... apply within (email) if you can help the band boost its funds.
On Sunday 4th November, Marske Brass Band set sail for Peterlee Leisure Centre to take part in the Durham County Brass Band Association Grading Contest. The set test piece for Section D was "The Seafarers" by Bruce Fraser, and just after 10 am it was "anchors aweigh" for the band's performance. The Marske Brass ship was then "becalmed" until the results were announced at the end of the next section, sometime after noon. Following a tense wait, the band successfully made it to "Treasure Island" as adjudicator Alan Fernie considered the band's interpretation and playing best on the day. As well as first place, the band also won trophies for the best bass section and best solo euphonium - well done to Sue Merser, especially as she hasn't been on euph for very long. The band took part in the National Championships of Great Britain (4th Section) on Sunday 30th September. There were 20 bands from across the country in the section, all of who had qualified to compete by already being either winner or runner up of their respective Regional Championships in March. Amidst some very stiff competition, adjudicators David Hirst and Allan Ramsay deemed Marske Brass's performance worthy of 14th place. The band is naturally very proud of this achievement, and would like to thank MD Alun Prest for all the hard work he's put in to steer the band down the road to this success. Long may it continue! More details on the band's appearance to follow. Please check back soon. |
